leaning back on the wall
your droll smile paints your face
and your eyes fix on mine
as it has for most of the evening
as if you called me
I come near
and nearer
leaning over you

but I cannot take the kiss

I bow my head
my lips dry and trembling
I graze your cheek
and I turn around and leave
